This is how it all started..

Nasdaq is an abbreviation for the National Association of Securities Dealers Automated Quotations. Nasdaq is a well-known American stock exchange, boasting the largest electronic trading market in North America. Nasdaq was incepted on February 8, 1971.

Despite it being the world’s first ever electronic stock market, it took until the October 1987 stock market crash for people to appreciate what an electronic stock market can do for them. Through its popularity and solid foundation it joined the London Stock Exchange in 1992 and merged with the American Stock Exchange in 1998. If it was not already clear that the Nasdaq was an electronic trading market, after these collaborations and mergers, it become more powerfully known and trustworthy.
