The process involved in trading.

Stock trading is the buying or selling of stocks between owners or investors. You may not meet face-to-face; there is instead a process that happens from the moment you want to buy and sell and inform your broker and when they find a buyer/seller and get back to you with the end price.

There are two basic places where this exchange of trade occurs:  1) online or 2) on the exchange floor.  There is not an overall consensus to move trade to electronic means, therefore both options are available. The majority of markets, like the NASDAQ, use electronic means for stock trading. Thanks to movies, we are used to seeing most stocks traded on the exchange floor where there it is very hectic and everyone is excitedly communicating to one another—verbally and nonverbally.
