What kind of stock do you have?

Stock is a common term used in business and finance in North America. It is normally referred to as a share of ownership in a company and allows its owners a voting right. In other countries a stock can be referred to various financial instruments.

There are two types of stock: common and preferred.To have a share or stock in a company allows the shareholder to also have a say in the direction the company chooses to take. Stocks can be shared among those in management; however it is also sometimes possible for the public to buy stock in a company. Companies listed in the stock market hope to enhance the shareholder value.
